A health violation is filed under a business, not under a plate or a person.

NYC department of health violation search

A Department of Health and Mental Hygiene violation is recorded against the establishment inspected, and the hearing on the summons is held at OATH. Nothing on this site will find one: our file is the city's parking and camera violations.

Came here with a parking ticket or a camera violation instead? That one is the city's, it sits on the plate, and the free plate lookup will show it. Disputing it is free on the city's own site at nyc.gov, inside 30 days from the date on the ticket.

Where to search it

For food service, the city runs a public search on the establishment: restaurant inspection results, read September 22, 2026. The whole file behind it is open data, published as DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results and queryable without an account, read on that date too.

Where the summons is answered

An inspection finding and a summons are different papers. The summons is heard at OATH, which lists Health and Mental Hygiene among the city enforcement agencies whose summonses it hears, and which says you do not need a lawyer to appear (nyc.gov, OATH Hearings Division, checked September 22, 2026). Case status for summonses across all those agencies is in the city's open file.

We compute New York City parking and camera hearing outcomes and publish them free. We hold nothing on state moving violations or on the other agencies' files, so this page sends you to the office that does. If a link has moved, write to me. One person reads that mail and answers it; expect a reply within a few days.
