A parking ticket for an expired or missing inspection sticker is the city's, and the city publishes the amount. A moving violation for an expired inspection written in the five boroughs is the state's, and the state publishes no single figure for it.

If the ticket was on the windshield and the charge is an expired or missing inspection sticker, that is violation code 71 on the city's own schedule and the fine is $65, the same in Manhattan as everywhere else (nyc.gov, violation codes, fines, rules and regulations, checked September 2, 2026). If the ticket is headed Traffic Violations Bureau, it is a non-criminal moving violation and the bureau adjudicates it. The state publishes no single fine figure: the amount is stated when you plead to or pay, and there may be a mandatory surcharge and further fees on top (dmv.ny.gov, plead to or pay a TVB ticket, checked September 22, 2026). We are not going to guess at a number the state does not publish.
Read the heading. A city parking ticket carries a violation code and a Department of Finance address (the city's fine schedule). A state ticket names the Traffic Violations Bureau. If you are not sure, the plate lookup below shows every parking and camera ticket open against the plate, and a ticket that does not appear there is not the city's.
